20 July 2009: In the early morning of about 2am today, i felt very cold. I measured my body temperature, it had a reading of 38.6C. I also had sore throat, stuffy nose, cough and chill. Does that mean I have contacted the H1N1 virus?

Sought help from general practitioner yesterday. He said it's just normal seasonal flu since I have no close contact with suspected or confirmed H1N1 case. Furthermore, I have no recent travel history.

The practitioner just prescribed me a bottle of cough medicine, some lozenges and medicine for fever. I have felt a bit better since yesterday after i took some medicines. However, i still feel weak and fatigue.

I measured my body temperature just now. It has a reading of 38.0C. I wonder if i shall consult doctor at polyclinic. It may be seasonal flu, and maybe not.

Now, my throat is still sore and dried. Still cough a little bit with flame in it. Hopefully it is just seasonal flu.

A life as a commuter of public transport in Singapore

Wouldn't be weird when you once drove a nice car, and one day, you have to take public transport, in Singapore? It is like coming from Heaven to Hell. To be exact, enjoying the pleasure and comfort of driving becomes impossible and you have to take the bloody awful public transport.

It is always a luxury to drive in Singapore although it is not necessary as Singapore has one of the best public transit system in the world. But, what about the commuters that engage the service?

Singapore has indeed a very well organized public transport. I am a guy from a small and remote village from Malaysia. When I came here few years ago to study, the public transport in Singapore blew me away because it is convenient and comfortable.

However, my traveling trip recently was very bad.

6 July: Taking bus 109 to Changi Village for seafood. But 2 Malay kids irritated me they as behaved like monkeys by tapping their shoes loudly on the floor. When they were being told off by other commuters, they cried at the back and screamed "Mommy, somebody scold me...", while in fact, their parents were not even with them at all.

6 July: Taking bus 109 back to Pasir Ris after having dinner. A group of PRC guys spoke and laughed loudly in the bus

6 July: 3 Malay guys with fishing gears occupied 6 seats using their fishing gears. There were many passengers at that time, though, there were no passengers deemed to be in need to sit down.

11 July: Two aunties were gossiping about anything in bus service 10, from Ampang Yong Tau Fu, to sissy guys.

12 July: A group of thugs were making lots hell of noise at the back of bus 81. They were talking loudly, speaking vulgarities and screaming. When other passengers turned back their heads to stare at them, they pretended like nothing happened. Shame on them.

According to MSN news, Pop icon Michael Jackson has died of a cardiac arrest. Jackson, 50, was pronounced dead at 2:26 pm (5:26am Singapore time) local time after reportedly suffering a cardiac arrest.

Lieutenant Fred Corral told CNN that an autopsy would "most likely" be carried out on Friday however would not speculate on the exact cause of death.

I went to 旗鱼海鲜村 (Swordfish Seafood Restaurant in Johor Bahru) with my family on this Father's Day to celebrate the festive. When we reached the restaurant, it was jam-packed.

To get to the restaurant from the car park, we need to cross a bridge as the restaurant is built on the water. When we crossed the bridge, I heard something from behind...

It was a conversation between a mother and her kids.

Kid #1: "Water so dirty, ler"
Kid #2: "Ya lor, very dirty, not like Singapore water..."
Kid #1: "Will the bridge collapse, huh?"
Kid #2: "Ya i think so..."
Mum: "Stop talking so much and walk faster, the restaurant got so many people, don't walk faster then how can we get seats..."

Then they tried to walk past people in front of them...

From this moment, i knew they are Singaporeans... why? It is because Singaporeans are well-known for their KiaSu attitude (afraid-to-lose attitude). Anyway, I was amused too when i overheard that the kids scared that the bridge would collapse...

Now let's talk about this restaurant.

First at all, no waiter or waitress at the entrance, we have to find a table for ourselves.

Second, we waited for almost 20 minutes for the captain to take our order despite our very-best effort to call for a captain.

Thirdly, the captain does not take order for drinks. She said the waitress that took the order for drinks would come soon. But we waited for another 20 minutes.

Fourthly, the waitress finally came to take our order for drinks.

Then, it did not take long for the drinks to be served.

After that, we almost waited another hour for the dishes to be served.

Now let's talk about the food.

We ordered Lemon Chicken, Drunken Prawn, Steam Fish, a vegetables which is unknown by me, and Fried Mussel.

The Mussel was served first. Hmmm.. It is very, very delicious, I like it very much, so are my family.

Then, when we just finished the Mussel, the rice hadn't come. We tried very hard to call for a waitress or waiter just to get the rice served.

Well, we waited 10 minutes for the rice to be served, and the portion was so tiny, like feeding pigeon. "Best" of all, it was cold. We all agreed on this that it's tiny and cold.

Then, the Lemon Chicken was served. Well, I was very sure that it was Plum Chicken, as i tasted Plum in the gravy. It did not bother me much so i just tucked in and ate. However, this dish is cold too.

Drunken prawn and veggie were pretty delicious and tasty.

But, the fish, well, it's like they "re-cycle" fishes that other customers haven't finished. I saw bones scattered on the plate and it's like somebody ate the fish and very little thing left for us to eat.

The whole dine-out is a disaster and we swear we will never go back again.

By the way, my father commented that i became a complaint-king after 3 years of studying in Singapore as i said that i had to write about this experience on my blog, which i have already done.

Singapore Confirms First Swine Flu Case

Singapore has confirmed its first Swine flu case (H1N1 influenza)

It is a 22-year-old Singaporean female returned from New York on on SQ25 (Seated at Row 55) on 26 May at 06.30hrs.

According to MSN news, She began to develop a cough while onboard. She passed the thermal scanner uneventfully as she did not have fever then. Later in the morning, she consulted a GP who decided to send her to TTSH via a 993 ambulance, given her travel history. She was immediately admitted for testing. Laboratory confirmation of her infection was made by midnight of 26 May.

UOL POA 2009 exam

I am so upset now. I just came back from exam.

I was taking University of London, Principles of Accounting paper at Singapore Expo Hall 3.

When I arrived, it was a mess. Many candidates were checking at their desk number and i had a hard time checking my desk number.

Then, I entered the hall and sat down on my seat. The exam did not start punctually but 10.30am which was about 30 minutes late because many candidates had not sat down.

Finally the exam started, I spent 1.5 hour on Profit & Loss account and Balance Sheet statement. I could not balance it at all but i still can score 20-22 out of 30 marks at least.

Then i was so nervous when i realized that 1.5 hour had gone. I proceeded to Section C which i had to answer 2 questions which consist 20 marks each. I chose Q15 & Q17.

Q17 is something about NPV and i screwed it! I was so nervous that i put in the depreciation figure into the cash budget!!!! It's over, I wouldn't be able to score 80 marks++.

When I was about to finish Q15, i was told that 15 minutes remained and the exam would be over soon. I was so scared as I even had not begun Section A at all! Then, i quickly completed Q15 in 5 minutes which left 10 minutes in Section A. I must answer 6 questions in Section A and each consist 5 marks. I quickly did Q2 and Q4 which i thought very easy. By the time i finished Q4, we were informed that the exam was over and we had to stop writing.

I was so upset as I did not answer the other 4 questions in Section A which cost me 20 marks.

Now, i can kiss my "distinction" good bye!

First time I hand made Artisan Chocolate

I am having final exams soon. I am under stress but i find making chocolate can calm my mind.

This is my first time making an Artisan chocolate by hand. I spent almost 4-5 hours doing it in my kitchen. Although it does not taste so good, I am happy with it and i believe i will make progress each week.

I started with tempering and seeding chocolate, then, i added honey, salted butter and heavy cream. It smelt a bit like Ferrero Rocher, but when i tasted it, it was still a bit bitter.

One of the problem that I encountered was that the weather was too warm and the chocolate just would not dry. So i just put the chocolates into the fridge which is not the right way to do it.

The following picture is peanut truffles. It has to dip in ganache and coated with peanuts and icing sugar. It is only your imagination can limit you.

The following picture is a 72 percent dark chocolate. I think it is a bit bitter for me. I definitely am not a lover of dark chocolate...

Next week, I will probably experiment on doing more truffles.

A group of hooligans, thugs & gangsters ( I call them so because they are so disgraceful and uncivilized) "processed" the sushi on the conveyor belt at Sakae Sushi with washabi using their dirty and unhygienic hands.

How dare the guy even smiled like a pig when it was done. I am so disappointed to see such hooligan behavior. Now, remember the faces and scold them off when you see them.

I do not know about the civil law but i hope it gives police enough reason to arrest the hooligan.

SBS bus service 81

I think this is stupid.

A bus driver could not get the correct bus number displayed on the screen. In order to get it right, it took roughly 15+ minutes for the bus to depart from the bus interchange at Tampines.

I was at the bus interchange waiting for bus service 81 and this incident took place. Many bus drivers came to help but it was still unsolved for around 15 minutes.

My point is, why did the higher authority not dispatch other buses from the bus interchange? I saw 3 bus 81 docking at the bus interchange and none were sent to cover the bus route.

I wonder if this problem persists for more than 30 minutes, and no other buses are sent to cover the route???

I am now under tremendous stress. I will be sitting for final exams next month. Will be doing corporate finance, microeconomics, principles of banking and finance as well as principles of accounting.

What really freaking me out is the corporate finance and microeconomics preliminary papers. I just do not know how to answer the questions.

I have not revised principles of accounting, and i have not finished corporate finance studies (3 more chapters to go).

If i can't get first class classification, then i'm just wasting my time in university.

BKW Rent-A-Car (Singapore)

I wanted to rent a car for a short trip to Malaysia and called up BKW Rent-A-Car for more information.

However, the person answered the call asked so many questions...

"How old are you...?" (I think it's reasonable to ask)
"What is your job...?" (huh? do i need to give you this information? I rent cars for so many times and no car companies ask me for that...)
"Where is your company...?" (this again...)
"Got any name card...?" (huh? pardon me? do i need to tell you about this?)
"Married/single/divorced...?" (This is my private information, why should i tell you??)
"Why no name card...?" (Ask me why? stupid question!!)

Then the person kept asking the irrelevant questions. It's like questioning a criminal... And, hello!! I am not a criminal, I just wanted to rent a car for 2 days. What do i do to deserve such treatment??

Then, finally the person-in-charge said i had to pay $800 plus deposit to rent a car. I said "huh? The other two companies do not require a deposit at all. Well, i am okay to pay deposit, but not such a big amount...! "

Okay then, i rented from another company at Aljunied instead. And, by the way, your rental rate is too high compare to other companies which offered me the same type of car and roughly the same mileage.

*This is not my personal experience. As the person who rented the car was not me but my friend. I was with my friend when he called these car rental companies.

I am a victim of card fraud

I just received 2 missed calls from DBS bank that i had to return call to them for fraud control on my debit card transactions.

I called them and found out that my debit card was used by fraudster to buy airline tickets and some investment stuff. However, i did not authorize the transactions so i just told the officer about it. This is totally new to me as i have never encountered something like this.

I would like to credit DBS bank for recognizing discrepancy and in consistence on these 2 transactions.

By the way, I hope that the fraudster will be caught when he or she is trying to board the flight...lol...

Now, what concern me is how long it takes to get back my money...

I rented a car from Singapore and was going for a trip to Malaysia with my friend.

We took route#3 from Johor Bahru to Kuantan, then to Cherating Beach, Lake Kenyir (Tasik Kenyir) and Cameron Highland.

I am sorry that i do not update my blog so often now as i am preparing for final exams.

This is the city of Kuantan, the capital city of the Pahang state in Malaysia.
This is a shopping mall in Kuantan.

The following pictures were taken at Cherating Beach.

This is the famous sticky rice in a bamboo. I did not ask the local what it's called in Malay Language. The following two pictures are 2 of the vendors who sell the rice.

It looks a bit oily, but actually it is not. It tastes sweet and salty. I truly love it.

These vendors are located near to the town of Kijal.

Then we took a route not taken by many from Lake Kenyir to Cameron Highland via Gua Musang. The route has indeed nice scenery. However, the route is a bit dangerous with sands and rocks.

We were staying at Hotel de la Rosa (Spanish, the hotel of Rose). It is a nice boutique hotel.

This is a provision store at Cameron Highland. I bought lots of my favorite Kg.Koh (Sitiawan) chili sauce back home.

An unpleasant short getaway at Desaru

I went to Desaru yesterday at about 12pm. I rented a car from Singapore and drove to Desaru for a short getaway as i was mentally tired and i needed to be refreshed to face the challenge ahead.

I checked into this "Desaru Damai Resort". (Not sure if this is the right name) Anyway, it only cost RM105 to stay a night, but i actually paid RM150, you will know why i paid more than RM105 to stay there.

I checked in, grabbed my belongs from car and carried them to the room. First, i could not open the room's door at all using the key given. It was the first unpleasant incident.

Then i went down to tell the receptionist about this issue and asked him to solve it for me. He agreed and he took the lift up to the room with me. He tried the key but he could not open the door too.

Then, he went down again and i was waiting outside the room.

About 5 minutes later, the guard and house cleaning staff came to try to open the door. Finally, the door could be opened.

I thanked them and i went into the room with my belongings.

Then, the room was so stuffy and it was filling with unpleasant odour. It was so bad that i had to use my cologne to freshen the air. The aircon is not properly maintain at all and it was not cold at all.

Then, the shower room was malfunction too. The bath tub did not have any plug at all. I went down again and asked for it but they said they did not know where to get it. I told them it's okay and i rested the issue. The tap also was leaking out water and it could not be turned off after used. So, it was leaking water the whole night.

I had the most terrible night during my stay there. I woke up in 4am and i found that the room was so stuffy and aircon was not working properly. I was also bitten by insects.

Lastly, i could not tolerate all these hassles and i decided to check out immediately. I was hoping somebody's manning the reception table but nobody's there. So i just put the key on the table, i left with my car and i forwent the deposit which was RM45 and total amount i paid was RM150.

I know "What you get is what you pay". I pay so little and i should not have high expectation.

That's a very unpleasant stay though.

My Dogs

I had a wonderful time with all my dogs. Though only one of the dogs is mine, but, i love them all.

I and my friend went to Changi Beach Park to walk the dogs. At the same time, i hoped to give my Salmon a chance to socialize with other dogs.

First, let me introduce the dogs. The little black dog (image below) is Riku. She is a cross-breed female dog and she is about 7 years old this year. I think that Riku needs a grooming service because her body fur is too bushy.

The next dog I want to introduce is Joe. She is a 3 years old female golden retriever. She is a lazy bum. When I brought her out for a walk, she just refused to move, instead, she sat on the floor comfortably looking at people.

However, she is a very, very, very friendly dog. She is cute and she has very nice fur. I love her bid eyes and fur. Her fur is very smooth and it feels nice to pamper her. She is definitely Ms. Photogenic! :D

Next, it is my lovely dog, SALMON! What a great name! He is 2 months old male puppy. His parents are Jack Russell Terrier and Miniature Poodle. He is a very energetic dog, he is friendly, cuddly, cute, curious about everything and most of all, he does not bark at all.

He makes very good progress on his training. When i first brought him out for a walk, he was so scared that he just stood at the same place and refused to move. The next day i brought him out, he followed behind me and whenever i call him, he will come to me.

He likes to bite newspaper and plastic bag. As he likes to bite things, i put him in a cage. At the same time i want him to be litter-train.

By the way, Riku is scared of Salmon. Salmon likes to chase after Riku and Riku will bark at him. The picture below is Samon biting on Joe's tail. That is so hilarious! Joe is over weight and could not jump over to avoid Salmon's biting. It was a pretty funny scene but i did not have a video camera to take it down.
I love all of them. :)

My dog is called "Salmon"

I bought a dog yesterday at Pasir Ris Farmway Poh Kennel. It is a Jack Russell-Poodle Cross. He is a male and he was born 20 Oct 2008.

He is still a pup and i name him "Salmon".

He is a very active and intelligent dog who likes to bite newspaper and shoes.

He has apricot fur.

He always wants my attention.

He sleeps quite a lot and he is very quiet.

I will upload some pictures of him next few days.

SingNet Service Disruption

I was surfing the internet yesterday about 12pm +. While i was chatting with my friend over MSN, the internet service was suddenly disrupted.

I restarted the modem as well as my laptop. However, this did not work at all. I used my iPod to access the internet via Wifi, it was an unsuccessful attempt.

The internet service was down for more than 8 hours for me and it was back into service only at 8:55pm after my uncle contacted SingNet via phone support.

When my uncle called up SingNet, the line had been cut off twice.

So when you count down for the year 2009, it will be like this " Three, two, one and a half, one...Happy new year...!!~~"

The extra second was mandated by the International Earth Rotation and Reference Systems Service (IERS) in Paris, and is not to be taken lightly.

Sanlu chairman and general managers may get death penalty for the recent tainted milk scandal. I personally think that these bad spirits must be penalized heavily as they knowingly sold tainted milk to the public.

The affected babies are proposed to be paid 2000 yuan (S$423) each by the company but i think it is never sufficient as babies are priceless!

They shall be sentenced to death.

This is weird & strange...

Let's get it straight. I received $500 deposit into my saving account on 18 Dec. However, i do not know who deposit the money into my account. It was transferred to me via ATM.

I checked with my parents and sister whether they deposited the money to me without informing me, but, hey, they did not transfer any money to me!

I thought it was deposited to the wrong account, so i did not use the money at all. The next day, the money was still in my saving account, and, another weirdo happened, i received another $130 deposit into my saving account by PayPal! I do not have any PayPal account linked to this particular saving account. Isn't it weird?

Room where i stay

This is my room after major renovation.

Room partition and touch up cost me about S$700. Study table is S$550 from Mandalay Galery at east coast. Standing lamp from Ikea S$89, two decorating chasing lights S$50 from Robinson, book shelf with drawer from a furniture shop at Pasir Ris drive 6 S$ 450, new christmas tree and decoration about $30. Wall and ceiling paint about $80. This room has best unblocked view and i can see the panaromic view of Pasir Ris Fishing Pond outside the window.

My next project is to paste reflective laminating film in order to cut down the heat as this room's window is facing the sunset. Also, to install a full-length curtain is something that i need to do next.

The Andromeda Strain (2008)

I was browsing through a local DVD store at Tampines and found this title interesting: The Andromeda Strain (2008). It is only available on Code 1 which is more expensive (UP S$44.99, now $29.99), i tried to find this title on Code 3, however, it's not available. So i just took it.

Watch the trailer:

An unknown substance named "Andromeda" that killed human almost instantly was found in the town of Piedmont. This substance mutated to become more powerful. The wildfire team which was led by Dr. Stone was asked to find out the source of this substance and to stop the killing.

This movie is almost 3 hours and it is one of the best films i''ve ever watched. I wonder if any scientists will create such evil stuff.

It is somewhat similar to "The Happening" which i find quite interesting.

Microsoft and AOL email hoax

I received a forward email from somebody, the content is as follow:

"Dear Friends,

Please do not take this for a junk letter. Bill Gates is sharing his fortune. If you ignore this you will repent later. Microsoft and AOL are now the largest Internet companies and in an effort to make sure that Internet Explorer remains the most widely used program, Microsoft and AOL are running an e-mail beta test.

When you forward this e-mail to friends, Microsoft can and will track it (if you are a Microsoft Windows user) for a two week time period.

For every person that you forward this e-mail to, Microsoft will pay you $245.00, for every person that you sent it to that forwards it on, Microsoft will pay you $243.00 and for every third person that receives it, you will be paid $241.00. Within two weeks!, Microsoft will contact you for your address and then send you a cheque."

I did a search on this email over Google search engine, and found that this email was simply a hoax. Furthermore, AOL and Microsoft are not merging. No matter which incarnation of foolishness one receives, the bottom line is there is no free lunch at all though this foolish act is not harmless.

So, do not forward this type of email, do not spend your time forwarding this email to your friends or whatever emails you can find and do not be fooled by this hoax. After all, always remember that THERE IS NO STILL FREE LUNCH IN THIS WORLD.

Uncles smoking in LRT in Singapore

Gosh, this uncle is so daring. Smoking in the train in Singapore. So pathetic that his life is taken over by cigarettes.

This uncle also smoked in Singapore MRT. obviously he's drunk. These people who smoke in public transports such as LRT, MRT and buses should be penalized heavily.

Look at the Singapore Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system (Click to enlarge). Most of the lines are in use at the moment while some are still under construction/proposal.

Singapore bus transit system is also very convenient.

As Singapore is only a small island country, it is important not to have too much traffic on the roads. So, having a good public transport system is a must.

However, it can take a long time for me to reach my destination.

For instance, getting to my campus to attend lecture at Clementi from Pasir Ris (where my home is) by public transport takes about 60 minutes to 90 minutes whereas it takes only 30 minutes by driving to get to campus from my home.

As i am from Malaysia, when i first reached Singapore for further studies, i was totally amazed by the convenience and quality of the Singapore public transport.

Surely public transport in Singapore is cheaper than driving, but, if the time taken to reach my destination is shorter, i will give up driving.

My trip to Mersing, Tasik Kenyir, Cameron Highland, Fraser Hill, Kuala Lumpur, Sungai Nipah and Port Dickson in Malaysia

I rented a car in Singapore for about SG$420 for 4 days to drive to Malaysia for a short getaway with my friend, Earl.

We departed on evening and we reached Mersing at around 9pm. We both were tired so we decided to look for a hotel room to sleep and rest. We found this hotel "Sweet Hotel". The daily rate is about RM150, and we took it.

It is a very Chinese style hotel.

You can see from the pictures. Nowadays in Singapore, we can't see this type of decoration anymore. However, my grandmother's house at Sitiawan still has lots of similar decoration.

The next morning, we departed to Tasik Kenyir which is also known as Lake Kenyir. It is the biggest inland lake in Peninsula Malaysia. We took lots of pictures when we were on the way there.

This is a landmark in the fishing village of Endau.

We arrived Tasik Kenyir at about 11am. We checked into the Lake Kenyir Resort and Spa for about RM280 per day. There are lots of activity such as cave exploring, visiting waterfalls, sightseeing, etc.

Lake Kenyir is very scenic and peaceful. The resort is fantastic and the staff are very friendly. This is one of the best resorts that i have been to.

The next day we left for Cameron Highland, we took the unusual route that does not have a route number. It can be considered a very, very minor route in Malaysia. We also saw some people wished to hitch hiking. This is also quite common in Cameron highland as there are no proper public transport at all.

The above pictures are aborigine's houses and stalls. They are selling fruits along the mountain roadside.

We left for Fraser Hill the next morning.

There are fixed timing on the traffic going down and up.

We were at Fraser Hill for 2 hours before we headed for Kuala Lumpur.

I have been to Kuala Lumpur for umpteen times so i am not going to discuss about it.

Then we went to Sungai Nipah which is about 70 KM away from Kuala Lumpur. It is hometown of my mother. I was about 14 years old when i last went to there. But i still could remember the way going to my mom's hometown.

This is the school which my mom attended during her school days.

This is my mom's hometown. Main activity was rearing pigs but there was fatal sickness going on during 1997/98. So most of the pigs were killed and one of my uncles suffered from this sickness. He was cured but he became handicapped. It forced his wife to make a living to support her 5 sons. It was tough for her.
I remember the grave yard and there's how i found my way there.

We ate Wanton noodle at this stall. It was delicious as i always prefer Malaysia's style foods. Following picture: The hawker who sells noodles at Lukup (near to Sungai Nipah).

I was taking a bus from my house at Pasir Ris to Tampines Central. I overheard a conversation between a Singaporean auntie and her kid. The conversation is like this:

Kid: "Are we going to Genting tomorrow?"
Mom: "Perhaps, but we have to see if uncle Jerry is going too..."
Kid: "But i want to go Genting..."
Mom: "I know, if uncle Jerry is going to Genting too, then we can drive our car and uncle Jerry can drive his family to Genting too, it will be much safer... if he is not going, then we have to take the coach..."
Kid: "Why...?"
Mom: "Because driving in Malaysia is extremely dangerous. If we have two cars traveling together, it will be safer. If something happen, we can always look after each others....furthermore, robbery is very frequent in Malaysia, especially the target is normally Singapore registered vehicle... So, we've better take coach if uncle Jerry is not going."

At this time, i did not feel good, the mom was right, it's dangerous for a Singapore registered vehicle to drive in Malaysia. But i just did not like to hear this as i am a Malaysian-bred Chinese studying in Singapore and the conversation was all about the bad image on Malaysia.

But, i have been traveling to Malaysia by driving a Singapore registered vehicle for umpteen times. So far i have not encountered any problematic situation at all. It is always important to be careful and look out for suspicious people and vehicle when driving in Malaysia.

I watched this movie yesterday at Shaw Cinemas Bugis. I did not know what this movie was about but the title of the movie was catching my attention so me and my friends decided to watch this movie.

It's starred by Julianne Moore and Mark Ruffalo. It is a M18 rating.

A city is ravaged by an epidemic of instant "white blindness". Those first afflicted are quarantined... full synopsis

I do not know why those people go blind out of sudden. This movie does not follow logic to me. It is also a bit slow. But, it was the actors who could get my attention to finish watching the entire movie. On the other words, Julianne Moore and Mark Ruffalo did a great job.

I went to seek treatment for my acne problem this morning at National Skin Center in Singapore. It was my first visit and i was required to book appointment in advance.

My appointment next time is this december before christmas. Let's see if there will be any improvement.

I just watched this movie "The Coffin" Starring Karen Mok. Not sure if it is a Thai production. Scary but i do not understand the storyline.

It is believed that lying in the coffin can get rid of bad luck by Thai. I also am not sure whether this type of ritual or belief exists.

I would rate it 5 out of 10.

Anyway i am planning a trip to Taiwan next January or this Christmas depending on availability of flight tickets, hotel rooms as well as my school timetable. Anyone has good suggestion about Taipei hotels??

Are you worried about your future? This question is for the accounting, finance, economics and banking undergraduates.

Perhaps it is going to be tough for the undergraduates. However, i do not perceive that the current global financial turmoil so negatively like those others do. This is because i do not lose any money on this turmoil. But, what i am concerned now is the future of the undergraduates of accounting, finance, economics and banking.

Most undergraduates perceive this turmoil that is going to make our future bad. However, i do not think so.

This is because, it is the right time for those undergraduates to learn more about the market. It is a chance to learn more so that we can tackle the problematic financial system in a more effective and efficient way.

I do not know if you agree with me. But, as an accounting and finance undergraduate, i never regret going into accounting and finance studies at all.

We never expect Lehman Brother to fail.

It was a double A rating institution, yet, it failed.

Americans also have been borrowing too much money and saving too little.

Look at the Normal Distribution curve, it got only 1% chance to collapse. Few years ago, if i told you that Lehman was going to collapse, you would never believe me.

During this financial turmoil, the rich ones have been stocking up the shares on the market so that they can gain profit when the market recovers.

For me, i try to cut down my expenses each month. I also try my best to save as much as i can. At the same time, for those idle funds, i invest it in a market portfolio.

On the other hand, i worry that those financial institutions fail again.

Legal Sounds Music Download

I always purchase legitimate songs whether CD or download from the internet. If i download over the internet, i will make sure it is legitimate.

I know about itune store, however, itune's songs are way too pricey for me. Furthermore, itunes store is not supported in some countries such as Singapore and Malaysia, so, it is not easy to acquire songs over the internet legitimately.

However, i found Legal Sounds few months ago and i am happy with the hundred $$ of songs that i have bought. It is only about US$0.09 per song and it is relatively cheap compare to US$1.00++ of itune music store.

It got all the pop, oldies, country, rap, blue, classical, etc all types of music. You can find Madonna's songs such as 4 minutes and Holiday in Legal Sounds, you also can find Maroon 5's Wake up Call, Miley Cyrus, even Chris Cagle (by the way, he is my favorite country singer...)

My Weekend Getaway to East Coast in Malaysia 2

We left Tioman Island on Saturday and we drove back to Johor Bahru. We were thinking of spending a night at Kota Tinggi Rainforest Resort, but we did not go because I've been there for so many times.

Hence, we just went to return the car to my dad. Then my mum drove me to Today's Market near to my parents' house. We were hoping to get a cab and went to the Johor Bahru Town Center. Unfortunately, it was not as easy as i thought to be. These taxi drivers always take advantage of passengers, they do not even want to charge according to the taxi meter. (however, i met a taxi driver who charged me fully according to the taxi meter, according to the meter it was just RM18.60, however, i gave RM20+ for him simply because he was honest)

Because we were unable to get a cab (so hard to get a cab in the sub-urban area), we decided to take a public bus. We walked past this 777 Hawker Center. Lots of foods there but there're no my favorite "ala carte". "Ala carte" to me is those pig spare parts....i just love it very much...sorry if i disturb you because most people hate internal organs.

Luckily, we got a cab at the main road and after bargaining the rate, we boarded on the cab to Johor Bahru town center.

When we reached the town center, we were both tired and exhausted. So, we decided to stay over night in a hotel. We went to J.A residence hotel (aka Compact hotel), but it was fully booked.

We went to another hotel nearby called "JB central hotel". It is only RM145.50 per night for the deluxe room so we stayed in the hotel room to rest. This hotel room, i can say, is the best so far in Johor Bahru, and it's not expensive. It is big, spacious, comfortable and clean. So we happily paid RM145.50 for that hotel room and most of all, it was at the 20th floor unblocked view!!

These were all taken at the 20th floor of the hotel. Great view and this hotel is located at the heart of the Town Center. For those who wish to make reservation, you can call +60-7-2222-833.

My Weekend Getaway to East Coast in Malaysia

Didn't update blog for few days, because i went to East Coast in Malaysia for few days.

I do not have a car, so i borrowed a car from my Dad since he got a spare car. My friend, Jasper, and I, were on this short getaway of 4 days 3 nights.

We drove from Bandar Seri Alam, which my dad stays, to a quiet and relaxing fishing village in Mersing. We took route number 3 to arrive Mersing.

We were looking for a decent, comfortable, clean, inexpensive yet air conditioned chalet in Air Papan area. Air Papan is about 10-15 minutes drive away from the heart of Mersing.

We found ourselves a resort called "Fishing bay resort" at Air Papan which only cost us RM140 per night. It got what we wanted so we decided to stay 1 night there.

This was the chalet we stayed. It was about RM250++ but we bargained it till it's RM140. Great deal, great bargain.

This is the beach which is just right outside the resort. It is clean and beautiful. We had dinner at the resort's restaurant and it cost us only RM30.

Then, the next day, we left in the morning about 6.30am. We headed to Sibu Island hoping to catch a ferry to the beautiful island. However, when we were there, there're totally no transport going to the island at all. We were disappointed. But we decided to go to Tioman Island instead.

We took route number 3 to Endau, a small fishing town not far from Mersing. We finally catched a ferry which departed at 12pm that day. It cost us RM140 return ticket for two of us.

Then we took the ferry. We were wondering why there were still so many tourists going to Tioman Island at that moment because it was almost moonsoon which're unsuitable to visit.

It took about 2 hours to arrive Tioman Island Tekek Jetty.

When we were there, we were amazed by the clean sea water. It is as good as crystal clear.

The above pictures were taken when we arrived the jetty. The place in the above 2 pictures is a canal. It is for the boat to go to the snorkerling or diving site.

Then, we hired a local car with a drive for RM10 to go to a resort called "Persona Island Resort".

It only cost us RM120 per night. Quite reasonable and cheap, and it is clean and comfortable, but no seaview at all.

Because the foods served at the resort is mainly Malay foods which are not suitable for us, we went to a Chinese Seafood restaurant not far away from the resort.

It is called "Restaurant Sarang Seafood". Foods served here are relatively cheap. Each meal we only spent about RM40 with 2 dishes, 1 soup, 2 rice.

Chinese New Year decoratives still could be found in this restaurant. So nostalgic and i like it very much which remind me of my home town on the other side of Malaysia.

These are the grocery shop or convenient store near to the resort. We bought some snacks and drinks back.

Taken when we were about to leave the island. It was so dark that time. And we saw lots of bats just hanging around those big trees near the jetty.

These chalets looked good to me. It's small but i think it's clean and comfortable. It is like a small hut but i like it very much because it is closer to the nature....

We only stayed there for one day. We would like to spend more time there but due to time contrainst we had to leave the island. Overall, it is quite relaxing and i would love to go back again.

The next day, we took a ferry at 12pm heading back to mainland Malaysia.

I watch this documentary on the discovery channel. The host is Bear Grylls, he served three years with the Special Air Service, a special forces unit of the British army.

Watch the YouTube video, he's eating a Giant Larva, it is so disgusting, but he is really brave to eat that smelly creature.

He even dares to drink poo water from elephant. I found it too disgusting hence i switched to other channels.

In this YouTube video, he's eating a dead camel. It is too gross for me. But he got the guts that he can earn big bucks because of it.

Why does the price of the bond rise when interest rates fall?

I was reading my principles of banking and finance texbook and found this to be very puzzling.

Quoted from Finance Markets and Institutions Sixth Edition (Frederic S.Mishkin, Stanley G.Eakins) Page 246 Chapeter 10 The bond Market

"If interest rates fall, the price of the bond will rise. If rates fall enough, the price will rise above the call price, and the firm will call the bond. Because call provisions put a limit on the amount that bondholders can earn from the appreciation of a bond's price, investors do not like call provisions."

I do not really understand this "If interest rates fall, the price of the bond will rise"

"How do bonds work? Why do bond prices rise as interest rates fall, and vice versa?

Bonds are debt instruments that pay a fixed income over their life and then pay a principal to the bondholder upon their maturity. The typical bond has a principal of $1,000 and for the purpose of answering your questions, that's what my example below will assume.

When a $1,000 bond is first issued, it has a stated "coupon rate" of some fixed percentage that is usually close to prevailing interest rates in the marketplace at that time. Let's suppose a particular $1,000 bond carries a coupon rate of 5 percent. That means it will pay interest of $50 to the bondholder, most likely twice a year in payments of $25.00 each time. When the bond matures, it will pay the bondholder $1,000.

During the life of the bond, market conditions are likely to change substantially (including such major factors as the state of the economy, people's confidence in investing, rates of return on competing investment opportunities, etc.). And of course, being a bondholder doesn't mean you have to buy and hold the bond for its entire life; in fact, most bondholders don't do that. They buy and sell bonds all the time. The promise to pay $1,000 at maturity never changes. The $50 per year interest payment never changes. What does change is the bond's market price, which could go above or below the face value of $1,000.

Let's say market conditions change in this way: Interest rates rise, for whatever combination of reasons. A bond offering $1,000 at maturity and payments of $50 per year is no longer attractive at $1,000 if interest rates on similar, competing investment opportunities rise to, say, 6 percent. For the 5-percent bond to be attractive, its price must fall until the $50 per year represents a rate of return in the neighborhood of 6 percent. Its price might fall to $950 or lower. Conversely, if interest rates in the general market fall to, say, 4 percent, then people will gladly bid more than $1,000 for that bond in order to get the $50 per year interest payments. The price might rise to $1,050 or more.

The rule on bonds is indeed that as interest rates rise, bond prices fall and that as interest rates fall, bond prices rise. This is, as the example above shows, because bond prices have to fluctuate so that their interest return changes to reflect conditions in the marketplace, especially changes in interest rates."

Finally i can understand why "If interest rates fall, the price of the bond will rise." So, if interest rates rise, the price of the bond will drop.

My first lecture of Microeconomics

I had my first microeconomics lecture this morning.

The lecturer is a British man with heavy British accent. I was having tough time trying to understand what he was speaking during the lecture.

Lecturer mentioned that only 57% candidates passed the 2008 microeconomics exams. And only 2-3 candidates passed for my route (DMS route). I was so shocked.

I hope that i can pass this subject with flying colors. After all, i chose this subject because i believed i could do well (as i did quite well in my DMS for this subject).

My Passion About The Finance World...

I was a science stream student during my high school days. I have been very regretful of choosing science stream because apparently it is not my best field. However, 3 years of science training made me a better person in terms adaptability and speed of learning.

As i did not score well for the science-based subjects such as Biology, Chemistry, Advanced Math and Physics, I was forced to quit science studies when i had to choose what i should study for my tertiary education.

Then, i chose business and management as the focus of my tertiary education. It was when i was in second and third semesters. I was studying financial accounting and managerial accounting and the lecturer Ms.Janice Goh who inspired me and i started to love accounting.

Why do i mention accounting here? I think accounting has rather closed link with finance. When come to investment, financial accounting report cannot be ignored, but i have to admit that there are many other factors affecting investment decision, accounting is just part of it and it is only based on historical performance.

Then, in the fourth semester when i was studying Finance, i totally crazed about it and i just could not pull out of it. Like what i did for the previous semesters, i only studied the lecture's notes to prepare for the final exams, but for this finance modules, i got myself totally into the textbooks of the finance world. It's the numbers that counts. So, i began to have a passion for the finance.

I scored quite well for my finance paper and this semester i am doing two finance-related modules. I am more amazed when i know there are so many things that i do not know and i am very eager to learn more about the finance world.

I am just very particular about numbers and i hope to further study in finance during the postgraduate sessions.

Imaging a situation where you go for a dinner with 2 friends (3 people altogether including yourself). You guys enjoy a great dinner and wonderful time together. When it comes to bill, you call the waitress and ask for bill. The bill is $25. And each of you give one $10 notes which is total $30 notes (three $10 notes).

When the waitress comes back and gives you the change, it is five $1 coins. Of course the waitress gives you small change so that the waitress can get some tips from it.

All of you guys think that the waitress's doing a good job so the waitress deserves two $1 coins as tips. So each of you take one $1 coin from it.

During 18 May to 31 May 2008, i went to Koh Samui, an island which is located not far from Koh Tao. Koh Samui is the third biggest island in Thailand and it's located at the gulf of Thailand with suitable climate and great sun all year round.

I took a ferry from Koh Tao to Koh Samui.

When i reached Koh Samui Jetty, i went to find a cybercafe around the jetty area to book a hotel room via www.wotif.com. I always book hotel room using this website.

I had been to Koh Samui before and i know that Lamai beach is an ideal location to stay as the beach is not as crowded as other beaches in Koh Samui and it's cleaner and water waves are calmer.

After my search of hotel rooms i concluded that it's way too expensive for me as i was on budget and i would stay for about 2 weeks here.

So i got myself a taxi, which cost me THB400, to go to Lamai Beach.

When i arrived there, i found this hotel "Lamai Perfect Resort". This is not a hotel that's near to the shore but it's cheap and cozy and it only cost THB800(approximately SG$38) to stay a night. So i took the offer quickly.

I rented a bike from the hotel and it only cost me THB200( approximately SG$9.50) per day. No need to have motorbike license, but just ride. It's quite easy to ride but i had a minor accident that day and i broke my arms when i made a U-turn on a sandy wet road. The motorbike was damaged too but it's only the paint. I bought red paint the next day and i painted it over. The result is great and they didnt notice any difference....

That 3 days there in the hotel i did nothing much. After that, i went to "Buathong Resort" which is also located at Lamai Beach. The rate had been pre-negotiated and only cost me THB500 a day!!! My parents went to Masai Seri Alam Tesco Brand Pos Malaysia to post something for me via Pos Laju. Then, my parents were told that the Singapore Post carton could not be used to ship things, what a ridiculous reason!

I used Singapore Post cartons to post orders for so, so many times but this stupid Pos Malaysia staff said Singapore Post Cartons could not be used? What is this about?

I must critisize the staff at Pos Malaysia Seri Alam Tesco Branch. They are inefficient, ineffective, stacked-up attitude and the worst service among other Pos Malaysia branches in Johor Bahru. These people are good for nothing.

On the other hand, i would like to credit the staff the Johor Bahru Pos Malaysia Headquater Pos Laju division. The staff are friendly and helpful.

What i want to point out is that the advertisement will end on 13 September, however, now, my advertisement disappears again.

I am totally disappointed because the problem i was facing during the early stage of my advertisement now comes back to haunt me again. As it is only 08 September which is less than 1 week to the end of the advertisement, i still want my advertisement keeps running, otherwise why should i pay to engage their service.

I placed many advertisements in JBTALKS.cc before. The management team, well, i should say, L.PohChin to be exactly, always inform me 7 days before the advertisements end that my advertisements are going to be closed.

However, it is 5 days to the closure of my advertisement and i yet to receive any reply from L.PohChin. Is it because he/she is angry at what i complaint to him/her during the early stage of my ads?

We took the peak tram to go to the peak of Hong Kong island. To go to the peak tram station, we took the HK tram from Ramada Hotel HK (2Nd and 3rd day we stayed at this hotel) to go to the peak tramway station. It only cost HK$2 to go to our destination via tram.

This was taken from the hotel room we stayed at Ramada Hotel HK.

This is a church on a hill which is near to the peaktram station. It looked so creepy...

This is LanKuiFong. Lots of foreigners there have a drink and chill out with friends.

Hong Kong Disneyland. Incomparable to US disneyland, the weather was too hot though but i bought lots of cute stuffed toys back...

We ate only fast foods eg. KFC, Macdonald when we were there because the local foods just did not really suit us very well. KFC in HK got mushroom rice, quite tasty. We also ate the Wanton noodles too in a restaurant. We also took a bus to go to the other side of HK island, the bus was a double decker and brought us to a sea-front city, we had DimSum there, and it was quite delicious and tasty too. But, too bad the weather was too warm...

P/S: I am not here to say bad things about HK, but just to share my travel experience. We went to lots of places in HK, to be honest i don't really like HK due to the hot weather and humidity. Well, it's not as hot and humid in Singapore.

By the way, HK people seem like to eat mango ice a lot...

It is so fast. It is now the 1st day of September in this year. Time really flies and i really wish i could grab more of my time so that i could use it more efficiently...

I was in Hong Kong 1 year ago, 1 September 2008. I remembered the next day after i finished my third paper, i went to the airport to catch a flight to Hong Kong. I was so happy about it so i did not really study for my exams. Anyway i still passed with 1A, 1B+ and 1C. I did very well for my Managerial Accounting paper, but for my managing human resource paper i only scored a C... The B+ was for Principles of Marketing.

Anyway i am not here to talk about how my exams were, but to share with you guys my travel experience in Hong Kong.

I always book flight in advance using the internet and i always take Singapore Airlines. It is easy to book tickets over the internet and i can get to choose preferred seat. I always take Singapore Airlines because their service is the best in the industry.

I remember i took a flight around 8 o'clock in the morning. It was about 3-4 hours flight. I reached HK around 12-1pm in the afternoon. I always arranged the flight schedule so that, i can reach the destination around hotel checking-in hours, so that, i do not need to carry my backpack or luggage walking around the city.

I took a train express to go to a train station, i forgot the name of the station. From there i took a free shuttle bus to go to the hotel which i had booked before the journey. It was at Thimshatshui (i could barely remember the spelling), Empire Hotel Kowloon. On the way there i first tried the small seating for the shuttle bus in HK. I saw lots of "鱼蛋" at the hawker and restaurant and puzzling what 鱼蛋 was and i decided i had to try this 鱼蛋.

The hotel was quite expensive, it was about SG$120 a night. The hotel room was pretty small and i believed this was the true "Hong Kong" housing style which was totally not suitable for me and my friend, luckily we only booked the room for 1 night, so we decided to move to a bigger hotel room the next day.

We had a rest in the hotel room, then about 1 hour later we went out to find something to eat. Things in HK are quite expensive. Most of them speak Cantonese which i had quite a tough time trying to communicate with them.

We dined at a restaurant around the hotel's area. I ordered a "Curry rice with shredded deep fried chicken". It was pretty good and the point was that they served also me an egg that's not cooked nor warm, and it was so cold, just out of the refrigerator i believed! it was awesome and i could not ask for more. however, few hours later i had a stomach ache and went to Guardian pharmacy to get myself some medication.

Because of feeling sick, so we did not walk too far, instead, we went back for another rest.

In the evening, around 7pm, we went out again. We went to the street market around Tsim Shat Shui area. Lots of people, quite packed and hot too. I believed it was about 30C degree. Lots of Giordano Stores, Salsa stores, and stores that sell Handphone and gadget, well i think Hong Kong people are just crazy about these stuff. Nothing much to see for me because pretty much the same things can be found everywhere in Hong Kong.

We smelt something very funny far away. We went closer and it's Ox's internal organ!! Oh my god! so many people surrounded the store that sold this! I won't eat this type of foods but it is considered delicacy for Hong Kong people.

There is this thing always happening in HK, that is "sharing a table with different strangers". Everyone from different parts of HK, different background and different character just dines on the same table. They do not know each others, but they just eat their foods. This is very unique. However, we didnt really like it so we went to find a eating house that got spare tables and chairs. It was pretty tough to find this type of eating house especially during the peak hour when everybody just came out to find something to eat. After about 1 hour of search, we finally found what we wanted, an unoccupied table and 2 unoccupied chairs. We ordered our foods. It was not cheap though. Their menus are very long-winded, i mean their dishes' names. Because we didnt really know what these dishes meant, so we just ordered whatever we thought it's appropriate for us.

Okay, 10 minutes later the dishes were delivered to us. It was just a fried noodle...... what the heck they wanted to name the dishes so lengthily... :p

By the way, i just want to mention that HK road side eating houses interiors are very hot, the ventilation was not so good and it's like having a sauna in the eating house, so we just sat outside and ate our dinner...

After that, we didn't walk too long before we went back to HK as we were tired and the body was just so sticky due to excessive sweating. Took a long shower and i just went to sleep straight away...

This is outrageous and funny....watch it! Singapore ERP Gantries...:p

PayPal: Worst Online Payment Processor in the World

This is how it happens to me:

I bought something from China on 9th August 2008. I used PayPal to pay for the products. The amount was USD550. The product is Media Player 5(MP5).

The seller claimed that it had AV-out function and touch screen, which i can connect the MP5 to TV to watch the videos that are available in MP5.

I received my goods on 20 August 2008. I did my check and found that this MP5 did not have AV-Out function at all and it had no touch screen at all.

So i complained to the seller. However, the seller, Ms.Hong LiLi from BeiJing, did not even bother to reply to me (That's the disadvantage to buy from new supplier in China). Hence, i opened a claim to PayPal. I tried to communicate with the seller over PayPal, however, the seller just ignored my complaint.

Hence, out of frustration, i escalated the dispute to Paypal last night.

I got a reply from PayPal this morning, the message is as the following:

"Dear xxxxxxx,

You have chosen to escalate your dispute to a PayPal claim. By ending
communication with the seller, you are asking PayPal to investigate the
case and decide the outcome. As part of our investigation, PayPal reviewed
any communication you may have had in the Resolution Center.

Our investigation into your claim is complete. As stated in our User
Agreement, the claims process only applies to the shipment of goods. It
does not apply to complaints about the attributes or quality of goods
received. Therefore, we are unable to reverse this transaction or issue a
refund."

I wonder why, since PayPal's claim process only applies to the shipment of goods and it does not apply to complaints about the attributes or quality of goods received, PayPal still have a form for me to check the checkbox about why i would like to escalate the claim to Paypal?

As you can see, there are many checkboxes. If paypal's claim process only applies to shipment of goods, why does paypal still want to include "damage, fake, incomplete, unusuable, materially different"? Why does paypal just make it clear that if i make a complaint about damaged or non-as-described products received, i wouldn't be able to claim my money back? Why does paypal not put in "shipment not received" only but also other reasons for claim?

I am very disappointed with paypal. I would like to remind the public especially paypal users to beware of PayPal when you are using PayPal's service.

17 May 2008- Koh Tao Snokerling Trip

When I reached Bangkok from Pattaya, I quickly took a cab to go to the train station that goes to Southern Thailand. There're few train stations in Bangkok, all headed to different directions.

When I arrived Bangkok Train station, I went to the ticket counter to buy tickets to Koh Tao. Actually the train stopped at Chumporn station and i had to take a transport to go to the jetty. The ticket cost me THB 2000 which included the first class cabin to go to Chumporn Station, land transfer from the train station to jetty and the speedboat ticket to Koh Tao.

When i wanted to buy the train ticket, there's a Muslim lady approached me and asked me where i was going to. I replied to her that i was going to Koh Tao and then she said that all the train tickets to Koh Tao were fully booked and offered me to sell coach ticket to me. Then i told her i prefered to take train to coach (I had a very bad experience taking coach in Thailand). I ignored her and proceeded to the ticket counter and enquired about the train to Koh Tao and luckily there're 1 first class cabin left. So i quickly booked the cabin. I want to share with you guys about this, just don't believe in what these people who offer to sell you coach ticket if you want to take train.

The train would leave at 7.20pm. When i booked the ticket, it was only 3pm so i went to take a MRT to go to town for another shopping spree. When i entered the MRT entrance, there're 2 offircers checking my bags and belongings. It is necessary to check all the commuters' bags to ensure safety within the MRT premise.

I will not talk about where i went to that day. Rather, I will focus on my trip to Koh Tao.

I arrived Koh Tao at about 11 o'clock in the morning. The people there touted and i approached one of them and asked where i could stay in the island. It's a small island but with very beautiful beaches. I booked a room at Blue Diamond Resort. It is a beach-front resort with very quiet beach.

It took about 30 minutes to reach there. Don't expect there's proper road along the way. It's all sandy roads.

When i reached there, i checked in and the worst thing was that's no air cond! The chalet i stayed was just at the beach and the nearest to the sea. Anyway i paid 2 nights( was planning to stay 2 nights), but the second day i cancelled another night of stay.

It was very nice beach. People there were nice. If you like snorkeling, I am sure it's one of the best place to snorkel. I saw lots of fishes and nice corals too. But it didnt feel good when i stepped on the sea floor, it was so muddy.

There's no 7-11 in around the area i stayed. So the only choice is to dine at the resort's restaurant. You don't even think of going out of the resort because it's too far and beware of the roads that's dangerous because of sandy roads. Furthermore, there's no transport at all (only once a day in the morning). It's pretty isolated from the world...

By the way, there's another island nearby Koh Tao called "Koh NangYuan". It's a diving resort. If you want to get a diving license there, you can go to Koh NangYuan.

Nothing much to comment about Koh Tao. However, it has one of the world's best beaches. Worth visiting~

16 May 2008: 1 night in Pattaya

I checked out of the hotel in Bangrak in the early morning and headed to public bus terminal which goes to Pattaya.

I took a public bus to Pattaya. It is about 2 hours of driving distance away from Bangkok. The bus ticket's quite cheap, but, i could not remember the exact price...

The bus departed few minutes after i bought the ticket. Luckily i caught this bus, otherwise i would have wait for another 30 minutes or so to go to Pattaya.

Before i went to Pattaya, i had already done my studies on it. Pattaya has few major beaches and i booked a hotel room at jomtien beach which is a little bit out of the way but i thought it would have quiet beach...

It took around 2.5 hours to reach Pattaya. Once i reached there, i quickly got a "tuk-tuk" to go to the hotel room.

it took me another 30 minutes to reach the hotel. On my way to the hotel, i saw many go-go bars, girls as well as guys one. There're many nice hotels around the way too. but when i saw the beach, although it's quite clean, i just didnt like it because the beach's packed with people. i was expecting a quiet beach and i thought i went to the wrong place.

when i reach the hote, i saw many hunky guys hanging at the hotel reception area. i was wondering why they're sitting down there chit-chating. to my curiosity, i asked the receptionist and she told me that this jomtien beach's a gay beach! oh my god! i was so shocked when i knew this! anyway i couldn't back up now as i had pre-paid the hotel fees...

although it's a quiet beach but i saw lots of gay-looking guys hanging around the roads and beaches, i didn't go out once i checked in the hotel. however, i just went out to buy myself dinner in the evening at 7-11 and there's this angmoh uncle touched my butt-top with his hands!!!! oh my god! i was molested by this uncle!!! well, he's definitely gay...i stared him back out of disguist and walked away quickly.

then, the rest of the night i never walked out of the hotel room. the next day's morning, i checked out and headed to Bangkok, hoping to buy a first class train ticket to an island getaway in the gulf of Thailand...

Blogshop...cheap but effective idea...

Today, I read an article in the Strait Times Newspaper, it is about blogshop. People can set up their own blogs, start selling things in their blogs.

Blogs are free, unlike a website which requires you to buy the domain name as well as the hosting space which can be quite expensive for students.

What you need to do is just to get some products to put into your blog and bring traffic to your blog .When visitors see your products, they may purchase something from you.

There's an undergraduate in Singapore, 19years old, selling things in her blog and generating more than SG$10,000 revenue each month. Thumbs up for her.

It can also benefit students too by learning the concept of marketing, distributing, wholesaling, and the process in which the products are being sold.

So, they can do it, why not you?
